Purple Prairie Clover (Dalea purpurea) is a jewel of the native prairie — a deep-rooted, drought-tolerant legume that fixes nitrogen in the soil while producing vivid magenta-purple flower spikes that bees absolutely cannot resist. Native peoples used it as a tea for fever and as a wound wash, and its deep taproot makes it one of the most resilient plants you can put in a Louisiana prairie garden.
