What Is a Private Cuisine?

A private cuisine (pronounced kwee-ZEEN) is a Cajun tradition of intimate house dinners — a living circle of friends, food, and storytelling rooted in the culture of Southwest Louisiana. It is not a restaurant. It is a home, a table, and a way of life.

How It Began

For me, it all started with house dinners. A group of friends, a chosen night, and me in the kitchen cooking a meal. All the cuisine ami's would come — share a dish, a story, a moment.

The next night, another private kitchen, a different meal, but the same friends. It went on for a week at a time. During those private kitchen nights, some friends came, some left, some worked odd hours — you might only see them once in a while. That's what a private kitchen was: a living circle, always changing, always warm.

A Cadien Tradition

It's part of our Cadien story — an open home, a ready table, a singing kitchen, and friends who walk in like family. The private cuisine is how Cajun people have gathered for generations: no reservations, no formality, just culture on a plate.

L'Histoire de Notre Cuisine Privée (En Français Cadien)

Pour moi, tout ça a commencé avec des soupers de maison. Un groupe d'amis, une nuit choisie, pis moi dans la cuisine à préparer un repas. Tous les amis de la cuisine — nos cuisine ami's — venaient partager un plat, une histoire, un moment.

Le lendemain soir, une autre cuisine privée, un autre repas, mais les mêmes amis. Ça continuait toute la semaine. Pendant ces temps-là, certains venaient, certains partaient, certains travaillaient des heures étranges — tu les voyais juste de temps en temps. C'était ça, la cuisine privée : un cercle vivant, jamais pareil, toujours chaleureux.

C'est une partie de notre histoire cadienne — la maison ouverte, la table prête, la cuisine qui chante, pis les amis qui entrent comme la famille.
