L’histoire du Garde‑Soleil commence pas icitte, mais dans l’Acadie perdue. Quand vint le Grand Dérangement, nos femmes furent chassées de leurs maisons, éparpillées à travers le monde — les treize colonies, l’Angleterre, la France, même les îles. Partout où elles allaient, elles portaient leurs bonnets simples pour se garder du soleil, du vent, pis de la misère.

Plus tard, quand certaines retournèrent en France pour recommencer une vie dans un pays pas contrôlé par les Anglais, elles gardèrent toujours cette habitude — couvrir la tête, protéger la peau, garder la foi.

Et quand nos gens descendirent vers la Louisiane, s’installant sur les grandes prairies d’Evangeline, le vieux bonnet d’Acadie devint le Garde‑Soleil — plus large, plus profond, fait pour le soleil brûlant du Sud et le vent qui court depuis le Golfe.

C’était pas juste un chapeau. C’était un morceau de mémoire. Un bout d’Acadie cousu dans la vie nouvelle.

The story of the Garde‑Soleil doesn’t begin in Louisiana — it begins in lost Acadie. When the Grand Dérangement came, our women were driven from their homes and scattered across the world — the Thirteen Colonies, England, France, even the islands. Wherever they went, they carried their simple bonnets to guard themselves from the sun, the wind, and the hardship.

Later, when some returned to France to start over in a land not controlled by the British, they kept the habit — covering the head, protecting the skin, holding onto faith.

And when our people finally made their way to Louisiana, settling on the wide prairies of Evangeline, the old Acadian cap evolved into the Garde‑Soleil — wider, deeper, built for the burning Southern sun and the Gulf breeze that never stops moving.

It wasn’t just a bonnet. It was memory. A piece of Acadie sewn into a new life.
